1 – Start with defining your target audience You need to know who you serve and why they need your services if you want good leads. Your marketing needs to be crystal clear on who you work with, so your ideal client knows you are the right solution for them. So who is your ideal client, and how can you best meet their needs?
2 – Advertise, advertise, advertise Every local small business needs to expand its reach. Seriously, you need to put your “name and face on everything.” Try to take advantage of all the free and paid advertising you can get/ afford. The more people who know of your service, the more clients you will ultimately get
3 – Simplify your message for conversion Make it simple for clients to work with you. Don’t overly complicate your process, and don’t make it confusing for them. If it feels like pulling teeth for them, it will leave a bad taste in their mouths and send them running. This is why ease of navigation, booking, quoting, etc. is so important. We need to find ways to pull them in, not give them reasons to give business to your competitor.
4 – Learn from your mistakes Not everything you are going to do will work. Some of your marketing will flop, but learn from that! Knowing what doesn’t work really helps you know what does work. It is okay to make mistakes as long as you never give up. There are no true failures in business- merely lessons and learning to aid you in the future.
5 – Use your analytics Understanding your marketing analytics can be confusing but that doesn’t mean you should avoid it! The data you collect really helps you understand if your message is connecting with the right people, and if those people are engaging with your content. Without this information, you have no real idea if what you are doing is working or worth the money.
6 – Work with a professional As a small business owner it is okay to admit if something is just outside of your area of expertise. Sometimes that means it is time to get some help. Maybe a free coaching session through your local SBA center, or maybe hiring a team to handle your marketing for you. Either way, investing in help can give you the roadmap you need to get more clients- AKA making more money!
There are no shortcuts when it comes to connecting and converting a client. It takes time, effort, focus, and care to come up with a conversion-centric strategy that works and serves your client.
